[June 23, 2026] – The APAC Society for Cellular Agriculture (APAC-SCA), the leading industry association representing the cellular agriculture ecosystem across the Asia-Pacific region, is pleased to announce that it has been granted Observer Status with the Codex Alimentarius Commission, the international food standards body established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
The designation enables APAC-SCA to participate in relevant Codex meetings and contribute technical perspectives to ongoing discussions on international food standards, food safety, and regulatory frameworks that support innovation while protecting public health.
As an Observer Organization, APAC-SCA joins a global community of scientific, industry, and consumer organizations that contribute expertise to the development of internationally recognized food standards. While observer organizations do not possess voting rights, they play an important role in providing technical input, submitting comments, and engaging in discussions that inform Codex deliberations.
"This recognition reflects the growing importance of cellular agriculture within the global food system and acknowledges the valuable contributions of stakeholders across the Asia-Pacific region," said Peter Yu, Program Director of APAC-SCA. "We are honored to contribute to the Codex process and look forward to supporting science-based, transparent, and internationally harmonized approaches to food safety and regulatory oversight."
Founded in Singapore, APAC-SCA serves as a platform for collaboration among companies, researchers, investors, policymakers, and other stakeholders working to advance cultivated meat, cultivated seafood, precision fermentation, and related cellular agriculture technologies throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
The achievement represents another significant milestone in APAC-SCA's mission to facilitate regional dialogue, support regulatory readiness, strengthen industry standards, and promote responsible innovation across the future food sector.
As the cellular agriculture industry continues to evolve, APAC-SCA remains committed to fostering constructive engagement between industry, regulators, academia, and international organizations to help ensure the development of safe, sustainable, and trusted food systems for future generations.
